С горы, скатившись, камень лег в долине.
Как он упал? никто не знает ныне –
Сорвался ль он с вершины сам собой,
Иль был низринут волею чужой?
Столетье за столетьем пронеслося:
Никто еще не разрешил вопроса.

Problème
Having rolled done a mountain, a rock lies in a valley. –
Why did it fall? Nowadays no one knows –
Did it break off from the heights of its own accord,
Or was it hurled down by an external will?
Century after century has gone by:
Still no one has resolved this question!
A Problem
After tumbling down the mountain, a stone lies in a valley.
How did it fall away? Right now, no-one knows.
Did it tear from the heights on its own?
Or was it cast down by the will of another?
Aeons have flowed by, yet no-one knows the reason why.
Problème
Vom Berg herab ins Tal, ein großer Stein einst rollte.
Wie er herabgestürzt? Nicht einer weiß es heute –
Ob er in jener Höhe sich von selber löste,
Oder fremder Wille ihn zum Sturz genötigt?
Die Jahre gingen hin, Jahrhunderte verrinnen:
Die Antwort auf die Frage konnte keiner finden.
Problème
W dolinę głaz się stoczył z góry stromej –
Dlaczego spadł – nikomu niewiadome.
Czy z własnej woli runął, czy był strącon
Z dzikiego szczytu prawicą myślącą?
Stulecie za stuleciem wolno mija,
Pytania nie rozstrzygnie myśl niczyja.
